Look around – smartwatches are not cheap. It’s easy to drop hundreds of pounds on a Apple Watch, or many thousands of pounds on a Tag Connected or Breitling Exospace B55 Connected. It’s safe to say that we are currently paying the price to buy into what is still a very young and evolving market, and it appears as though tech giants and Swiss watchmakers are hesitant to launch a loss-leader or affordable feature-packed option, because there is little money in it for them in a market where people are spending huge amounts. That is, until now. American designer and manufacturer Fossil Grou..

Swiss watchmaker Breitling unveiled their first smartwatch this week, the Breitling Exospace B55 Connected. Breitling now joins Tag Heuer and Movado on the Swiss smartwatch scene, however being aimed at pilots, the B55 Connected stands out and it is every bit as luxurious as Breitling’s long line of beautiful automatic chronographs. B55 Connectivity and Technology The Exospace B55 Connected follows the same path as Movado's smartwatch; it doesn’t have a touchscreen display or the ability to run apps on it's watchface. Instead, it takes on the appearance of a traditional watch..
After the iPhone was launched in 2007, it didn’t take long for smartphones to outsell feature-phones – that happened in 2013. And when the iPad was launched in 2010, it didn’t take long for tablet computers to outsell laptops – that happened in 2013 as well. You get our point – with the Apple Watch which launched in 2015, it won’t take long before yearly smartwatch sales reach hundreds of millions. They may even surpass those of traditional watches – one day, of course. The smartwatch market then is one all analysts are keeping a key eye on. To that end, one story that caught our attent..
The number of smartwatches on the market is growing fast. The world’s first modular smartwatch was revealed last month and Swiss watchmaker Movado unveiled no less than three smartwatches last month in response to the Tag Heuer Connected. With such big names entering the mix, it’s difficult for smaller brands to make a splash, however UK-based OXY has revealed a unique take on the smartwatch that’s set to shake up the market. ELF OS and Open Source The key difference between the OXY and other Android smartwatches is that it runs on Android 5.11 ELF OS, not Android Wear like mos..
It has only been around a month since Tag Heuer launched their Connected smartwatch, but the demand for it has been so strong that the Swiss watchmaker has had to ramp up their production of the device to meet retailers orders, according to Louis Vuitton SE’s watch chief. Tag Heuer launched their first smartwatch, the Carrera-inspired Connected, last month. The Connected runs Android Wear and boasts a 360 x 360, 1.5-inch LCD display protected by sapphire crystal and a low-voltage Intel Atom Z34XX processor. It has a battery life of around a day - that’s on-par with other current-generat..
Project Ara is one of the most exciting technology projects today; an initiative to develop an open hardware platform for modular smartphones. The point being, that you wouldn’t have to buy a new smartphone for better features. You would simply buy a new camera or a new battery to improve the phone you already have with modular components. Or, you could go into a store pick the features you want in your new phone and build your own device. It’s exciting and interesting, but importantly it’s in its infancy. It’s not viable right now and we consumers must pick from the handsets released b..
Indian watchmaker and luxury goods manufacturer Titan Company has teamed up with HP Inc. to launch a range of new smartwatches later this year in India and selected international markets. The range is set to offer more form than function, according to hints in statements released by Titan and HP which feature the phrases “drop-dead gorgeous” and “stylish timepieces”, with HP Inc. General Manager of Wearables and Smart Platforms Sridhar Solur adding, “The [current] market force consumers to sacrifice form for function.” Of course right now little is really known of the Titan-HP smartwatc..
Hot on the heels of Tag Heuer, Swiss watchmaker Movado has this week unveiled their own range of smartwatches - plural. That’s right, instead of releasing just one, the luxury brand has released an entire collection of smartwatches in a move that will undoubtedly shake up the luxury wearables market. The first-generation Apple Watch is a success – Apple has reportedly shipped 7 million of them to date, out-shipping all Android Wear devices combined. That’s a sensational number for a product in the wearables market, so the Apple Watch 2 has a lot to live up to. There’s no word yet on exactly what features the Apple Watch 2 will have– hopefully it’ll have a better battery life and be thinner – however we do have a vague release date for the much-anticipated update to the Apple Watch thanks to a report from Chinese site UDN. UDN’s report includes statements made this week in France ..
Tag Heuer announced last year that they were going to bring a smartwatch to market, and rumour had it they were partnering with Intel to make it happen. Those rumours have now come good, with the Swiss watch-maker launching the Tag Heuer Connected, the first smartwatch to be powered by an Intel Atom Processor running Android Wear. In an interview with the BBC, Tag Heuer’s chief executive Jean-Claude Biver said the decision to expand their mechanical watch range came from the belief of “a new customer base” in the latest generation of consumers, adding “if we didn’t have the Connected wa..
