Huawei has launched a new smartwatch this week - but it’s probably not what you’d expect from them if you have a Huawei Watch. The new Huawei TalkBand B5 is a 2-in-1 smartwatch and Bluetooth headset. You wear it on your wrist like a normal smartwatch, but the smart module can be unclipped from the wristband and used as a Bluetooth earpiece for phone calls. The TalkBand B5 replaces the older Huawei TalkBand B3. It boasts improved battery life over its predecessor and more accurate fitness tracking. It’s also got a more vibrant screen - a 1.13-inch AMOLED unit with a 160 x 300 resoluti..

You don’t have to have your smartphone in your pocket to listen to music. You can do it with a smartwatch and a pair of Bluetooth headphones. It’s just as easy and perhaps more convenient, since you can skip tracks from your wrist. Most people get into smartwatches because they want a lightweight music device for running or the gym. It’s these activities which show smartphones up - they get in the way and are quite frankly extracting. If you don’t want a glass brick in your pocket when you’re working up a sweat, a smartwatch for music is what you want. Don’t work out? That’s fine. Bu..
Qualcomm has announced a new processor that’s designed specifically for kid’s smartwatches. The Snapdragon Wear 2500 CPU promises better battery life than the 2100 generation CPU that’s found in today’s kid’s smartwatches, as well as built-in voice assistant capabilities for a smarter experience. This is a big deal for the smartwatch market. The Snapdragon Wear 2100 CPU was released back in February 2016, over two years ago. Qualcomm hadn’t released a replacement in that time. The 2500 CPU is the first advancement of the old chipset. Same performance - better battery It has ..
South Korean internet company Kakao has this week acquired a 51 per cent stake in KIWI PLUS, a local smart technologies company. Kakao’s acquisition of KIWI PLUS will see the technology giant inject 10 billion won ($9.23 million) into the company. This will be used to strengthen Kakao’s portfolio. What does this mean for the KIWI PLUS brand? Unclear. The KIWI WATCH 2 is still listed on the KIWI PLUS website. However, the website has been updated with product pages for the new Kakao Kids Phone and Kakao Kids Watch. As far as we can tell, the Kakao Kids Watch is the exact same device a..
Sometimes, the best things in life come from South Korea. Okay, we’ve made that expression up, but the AKI smartwatch certainly makes a case for it. This new kid’s smartwatch is seriously smart and looks great to boot. It’s also loaded with unique features and comes with an impressive hardware spec sheet. AKI AKI is a kid’s smartwatch, but you might not think it. It has a rugged aluminium frame, a durable silicone band and IP68 water resistance rating. The design is minimalist and sleek, with smooth surfaces and a round display. The 1.2” AMOLED screen is protected by Gorilla..
It’s a fact that most consumer electronics out of China are cheaper than consumer electronics manufactured elsewhere in the world, which is good news if you’re in the market for a new smartwatch. Chinese smartwatches are 50 to 80 per cent cheaper than smartwatches made by Western brands. It’s important to point out too that Chinese smartwatches are branded - it’s just you’ve probably never heard of them. So-called micro-brands tend to pop up, put their name on a smartwatch, and then disappear to rename themselves. It’s just how the market works over there, and it works well. Th..
Rugged smartwatches are incredibly versatile. They’re great for hiking, swimming, wearing to work, playing with the kids and everything in-between. What makes a smartwatch rugged? It’s got to have a durable outer body, some level of shock protection and waterproofing of some kind, be it an IP certification such as IPX8 or IP68 or an ATM rating such as 10ATM. It’s also got to have in-built GPS - a feature which is extremely useful if you do any outdoor exploring. Unfortunately, there are literally hundreds of smartwatches out there that claim to be rugged but really aren’t. They’re ju..

Whether you pump iron, take calisthenics classes or get in your cardio at the gym, a smartwatch can help you workout harder and smarter. The best gym smartwatches will track each lift and every step you take in the gym. If that’s something you’d benefit from, we’ve got some great recommendations for you. It’s important to note that regular fitness trackers have little to offer if your workouts heavily focus on weightlifting. The market is such that it caters for running, swimming and cycling rather than lifting weights. Even something as simple as a push-up, or pull-up, isn’t tracked by..
With 30 days of battery life, the TicWatch Pro smashes its Wear OS competition. But do those long legs sacrifice usability? It’s something all smartwatch users dream of - being able to wear their watch to bed, or take it off, and not have to worry about charging it. Unfortunately, lithium-ion batteries are as efficient as they can get for their size. So, unless a smartwatch is very large or very thick to accommodate a big battery, there’s little else an OEM can do. Or so we thought. The TicWatch Pro Mobvoi - the company behind the TicWatch S and TicWatch E - has announced..
