The New York Standard Watch Company (NYSW) has been making watches for a long time (since 1885, in fact). They are perhaps most famous for their classic mechanical pocket watches, which consist of both simple and more elaborate designs. Some of their antique models are extremely desirable, and can go for thousands at auction. And now, NYSW has entered the smartwatch market with a new collection of hybrid smartwatches that boast attractive, classical designs. NYSW Smartwatches The new collection consists of the Manhattan and SoHo smartwatches, which are all analogue wa..

Epson is a technology brand best-known for its printers and scanners. They also make projectors, but for the most part, they specialise in inkjet printers, large-format printers and scanners. In other words, they specialise in office equipment. They have attempted other things, though. For example back in 2011, they announced the Moverio Smart Glasses and back in 2014, they launched the Runsense GPS running watch. The latter was no great success, but it proved that Epson could put together a wearable. And now, they’re back with another. Epson ProSense When we say another,..
Nokia has this week unveiled two new limited-edition hybrid smartwatches, which will join the Nokia Steel smartwatch range immediately. The Nokia Steel Limited Edition is available in two colours - ‘Rose Gold’ with a grey leather or pink leather strap, and ‘Full Black’ with a black leather or brown leather strap (you can choose which one you’d like at the checkout on the Nokia website). Curiously, the Full Black Limited-Edition model has silver hands and a contrasting silver activity progress dial, so we’re not sure why it’s been called ‘Full Black’ when it really isn’t. The Nokia St..
Fitbit’s shares rocketed in price recently after the company announced a partnership with diabetes-tracking company DexCom. Their share prices went up 10 per cent last Thursday at mid-day, as the market reacted well to the news. In their announcement, Fitbit said that the Fitbit Ionic smartwatch is the device that will aim to bring diabetes management to the wrist, by using a sensor that sits just under the skin to measure a person's glucose levels. The sensor would then transmit information to the Ionic, so that the patient’s glucose levels can be managed. This technology, which is mad..

Those displays are the mVoice G2’s unique features, although it is the voice control functionality that’s much cooler...

Back in January, we reported on a hybrid smartwatch from Kronaby called Nord that had a stonking two-year battery life and a premium design. Since then, a variety of upper-market hybrid smartwatches have come to market, but none of them have matched the battery life of the Kronaby, which is some feat. Kronaby’s outstanding battery life has done the brand well, with their hybrid smartwatches selling beyond expectations. And now, they are expanding their range with nine new models, which will be introduced to the Sekel and Carat ranges with new finishes. These will offer new case finishes..
Ladies, you’ve been spoilt for choice recently with the smartwatch market. We recently wrote about two new smartwatches, the Michele Connected and Skagen Signatur T-Bar, that have been designed for slimmer, feminine wrists and the best part is, neither of those devices give up any features to achieve that look. They’re good smartwatches. And now, there’s two more devices to add to your list, if you are in the market for a women’s smartwatch. They’re called the Fossil Q Neely and Fossil Q Jacqueline, and they both have a 36mm case, making them the smallest Fossil smartwatches to date. Th..
Good battery life is unquestionably the biggest challenge the smartwatch market faces. Right now, smartwatches with a screen, such as the Apple Watch and Android Wear devices, consume the entirety of their battery’s charge within a few days. And sometimes, depending on usage, battery life can last less than 24-hours. Several solutions have been presented to overcome this challenge. For instance, the Casio WSD-F20 has a battery-saving monochrome LCD layer on its screen. It isn’t just up to OEMs to improve battery life, however. It’s also up to the component suppliers. Qualcomm being a pr..
