Huawei has launched a new smartwatch this week - but it’s probably not what you’d expect from them if you have a Huawei Watch.
The new Huawei TalkBand B5 is a 2-in-1 smartwatch and Bluetooth headset. You wear it on your wrist like a normal smartwatch, but the smart module can be unclipped from the wristband and used as a Bluetooth earpiece for phone calls.
The TalkBand B5 replaces the older Huawei TalkBand B3. It boasts improved battery life over its predecessor and more accurate fitness tracking. It’s also got a more vibrant screen - a 1.13-inch AMOLED unit with a 160 x 300 resolution.
The 2-in-1 design is unique to Huawei. The B5 looks like a normal fitness tracker (or rectangular smartwatch) on your wrist, but if you unclip the tracker module from the band you can use it as a Bluetooth headset with your smartphone. The tracker has a high-quality in-built earpiece for this. The only drawback is you need to sync your smartphone with it to answer calls, because the B5 doesn’t have mobile connectivity.
Huawei has a history of developing innovative products. You’re probably aware of the excellent Huawei P20 Pro, which obliterated the Samsung Galaxy S9 in design, battery life, features and price this year. You’re also probably aware of the Huawei Watch 2 Sport, with its neat ceramic bezel, accurate heart-rate monitoring and live GPS.
Pricing and Availability
The Huawei TalkBand B5 goes on sale in China on July 20. It will go on sale in Saudi Arabia and the UAE shortly afterwards. No availability or pricing has been announced for the US, but you can buy the older model, the B3, online from Amazon. We expect you’ll be able to do the same with this latest model by September.
