Launched at IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) this year, the XPLORA 3S is a kid’s smartwatch that doubles up as a watch phone.
XPLORA is a Norwegian manufacturer of wearables and they’ve a history of producing really great GPS smartwatches for kids. The first-generation XPLORA smartwatch was a huge success for them and this version builds on that.
Keen to make the XPLORA 3S a smartwatch that’ll stand up to the rigours of childhood (you’d be surprised by how many kid’s devices don’t) it’s got an IP67 water resistance rating so it’s good for submersion at a depth of 1.5-metres for up to 30 minutes.
The watch module is made from a durable plastic and has a built-in allergen free silicone strap, which you can have in pink or blue. Both look sweet.
There’s a built-in camera for selfies and photos can be sent over Wi-Fi or cellular, providing there’s a SIM inside. On this, when you buy the smartwatch through XPLORA you can choose to have it SIM FREE or sign up to a contract for mobile data at the time. These vary from 12 to 24-months and are decent value for money. Should you have a SIM card already, you can use this. The XPLORA works with most networks.
GPS is an important feature that comes as standard. It allows you to setup geofences (boundaries) and track your kid in real-time. You’ll be notified if your kid strays beyond their boundaries and have the opportunity to message or call them if they do.
This all adds up to make the XPLORA 3S a very safe smartwatch. The display’s decent the battery life is rated for over 24-hours too.
