Louis Vuitton Reveals the Tambour Horizon Smartwatch

by in News .

Louis Vuitton has this week revealed the Tambour Horizon, its first ever smartwatch.

The Tambour Horizon runs Android Wear 2.0 and boasts a 1.2-inch round AMOLED touchscreen display with a 390x390 resolution. The crystal covering the display is a sapphire crystal, as you would expect from a luxury smartwatch, and the case is 42mm with a 12.55mm thickness. That puts the Tambour Horizon at around the same size as the original HUAWEI Watch, which is 12.6mm thick with a 42mm case.

What sets the Louis Vuitton Tambour Horizon apart from the various other Android Wear smartwatches on the market is its design and the quality of the fit and finish. The display is super-vibrant and looks stunning behind the sapphire crystal, but that comes second to the stainless-steel case which just looks and feels expensive. There’s also black and monogram variants available which cost slightly more than the stainless-steel version.

Powering the watch is a Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor paired with 512MB of RAM. The Snapdragon 2100 is the latest processor to be used in smartwatches, so the Tambour Horizon should certainly be speedy. It connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and lets you download apps straight onto the device. It has fitness-tracking sensors built-in, and Louis Vuitton’s also developed flight-tracking and city guide features. These are displayed in the centre of the display for a unique user experience.

As previously touched upon, the Tambour Horizon is available with a stainless steel, black or monogram case. There are also a variety of different straps available. These range from plush, understated leathers to bolder leathers with a Louis Vuitton logo.

Pricing and Availability

The Tambour Horizon is a premium smartwatch, and has a premium price tag to match. It starts from $2,450.00 for the stainless-steel version, which is considerably more than your average Android Wear smartwatch costs. But, it is far less than the $7,000.00 starting price of Louis Vuitton’s mechanical watches - so it could be considered a bargain. The black Tambour Horizon is priced from $2,900.00.

Interested? The Tambour Horizon will be available in-store at select Louis Vuitton locations soon. You can also buy it online directly from the Louis Vuitton store.
