Danish timepiece brand Skagen has somewhat of a collection of excellent hybrid smartwatches. They recently unveiled another at Baselworld 2018, in the name of the Holst.
For those of you who want to wear a smartwatch without shouting about it, the Skagen Holst is perfect. This stylish, minimalistic hybrid smartwatch tracks activity down to a tee and is extremely versatile with its black or navy watch face.
Utilising the same basic fitness tracking technology as the Skagen Hagen Connected range, the Holst tracks steps and calories burned accurately. Connect it to your iPhone or Android smartwatch via Bluetooth, and you can also receive call and SMS notifications.
One of the most interesting features of the Skagen Holst is the ability to set phone numbers to positions on the watch face. So, for example, you can set your spouse’s number to ‘6’ and when they call the watch hands will point to 6, to give you a heads up about who’s calling without you needing to look at your phone. It’s one of the neatest features we’ve seen on a hybrid smartwatch and we wish more manufacturers would do it.
As you’d expect from a Skagen, the Holst is extremely well made. It’s light on the wrist but feels reassuringly robust under thumb. It’s available with a black or navy-blue watch face and with a leather strap or steel bracelet. We recommend the leather strap above the metal bracelet, because the latter isn’t as well made as the watch itself.
Pricing and Availability
The Skagen Holst will be available through the official Skagen website soon, priced from $195.00 in the US which is in line with the Skagen Hagen Connected. If you’re not a fan of the minimalist watch face on the Holst, check out the Signatur Connected which has a more interesting dial and recessed function buttons.
