Misfit, the makers of the Ray, Shine and Speedo fitness trackers, teased their first smartwatch at CES 2017. The Misfit Vapor (sorry, we won’t be making any vapourware puns) boasts a 1.39” AMOLED display, GPS and a unique touch bezel, which lets you interact with some features of the watch by tapping or touching the bezel around the screen.
Misfit teased the Vapor with it rocking a highly-customised version of Android Wear, which is odd, since OEMs aren’t allowed to customise it. However, Misfit sell most of their devices in the Chinese market, where they can do pretty much what they like. So, the Vapor shown off at CES 2017 isn’t likely to be the Vapor that the US market sees. What we can say however is that the product design of the Vapor has been signed off - and it’s a beauty.
One of the Best-Looking Smartwatches of CES
The Vapor’s stainless steel case is rounded, with the device boasting a 1.39” AMOLED screen with a resolution of 326ppi. The screen is “flat tyre” free and appears to be covered by Gorilla Glass. Misfit showed off a Rose Gold and a Black version of the Vapour, with both looking great. The Vapor will come as standard with 4GB on board storage, and it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor. So, it’ll be plenty quick enough.
The size of the Vapor smartwatch at CES 2017 was 44mm. It wasn’t made clear at CES whether Misfit will launch the Vapor in a few different case sizes, but what was made clear at CES by Misfit was that the straps will be interchangeable, so we expect Misfit to launch a wide range of bands to go with the Vapor. As standard, though, it will come with a rubber or silicone band, so we can expect some leather and stainless steel bands.
Pricing and Availability
Other than that, Misfit are keeping tight-lipped about the features of the Vapor. We know it will have GPS and full fitness tracking capabilities, but we aren’t yet sure how the software is going to look or how that ‘touch bezel’ will work. Interesting in the Vapor? Everything will be revealed later in 2017, with Misfit expected to launch the device during the spring or the summer. Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but the Vapor should cost around $199.00.
