If you like the idea of a Swiss-Made smartwatch, perhaps you’ll be tempted by the new Mondaine Helvetica Regular unveiled at Baselworld 2018.
Although better-known for their Swiss railway watch design, which they have produced since 1986, Mondaine also have a watch line called Helvetica, a line which celebrates the sans-serif Helvetica typeface developed in 1957 by Max Miedinger.
The Mondaine Helvetica range is available in a few different designs. The Regular models feature bold fonts, while the Light line throws numbered indices away for applied markers for minimalism. The new Mondaine Helvetica Regular smartwatch has a distinct design all of its own with a wider bezel and an activity progress dial at 6 o’clock. Available in six different colour combinations including with a silver, gold or black case and leather or silicone straps, the Mondaine Helvetica Regular smartwatch stands out with an all round sportier design than its brethren.
Importantly we feel for a Swiss-Made timepiece, the Mondaine Helvetica Regular smartwatch has a sapphire crystal face which is much more durable than the mineral crystal that is found on cheaper watches. You will also find the Mondaine Helvetica Regular beautifully finished with a brushed effect and a crystal-clear dial thanks to an AR coating. It’s also water resistant to 3 ATM and boasts a 12-month battery life.
In terms of its smart features, the new Mondaine Helvetica Regular has a push-down crown which lets you cycle through them. Smart features include step tracking, sleep tracking, calorie counting, stop watch functionality, a world timer, silent alarms and active alerts for smartphone notifications. These are easily setup through the Mondaine app. The Mondaine Helvetica Regular is compatible with iPhone and Android devices.
Pricing and Availability
Pricing has not been fully announced yet, although we expect this smartwatch to retail for around $600.00. That’s a lot of money for a hybrid but the Helvetica Regular Smartwatch is an extremely well-made device.
