Movado Turns Up the Style with their Connect Smartwatch

by in News .

Movado has announced their first Android Wear smartwatch at Baselworld 2017.

The Movado Connect has an eye-catching flat-ridged ‘edge-to-edge’ display and an industrial-inspired case which appears to be brushed aluminium or stainless steel. The press photos for it mimic the iconic design of the Movado Museum, but of course, the Connect’s ‘dot’, which is used as the 12 o’clock indicator, is made up of pixels and not a crystal. The iconic single-dot dial is now synonymous with Movado, and it remains their most popular design.

One thing we should point out that isn’t made clear with the press photos is that the Movado Connect doesn’t really have an edge-to-edge screen. The screen has a large black bezel that runs around it, just like the Movado Museum has.

The Movado Connect will have a hard time on its hands replicating the success of the classic Museum, but it has certainly started off in the right way.

The Movado Connect’s clean, industrial design is fresh and modern, and it’ll launch with a variety of clock faces that let you change the colour of the watch face all while retaining the single-dot at the 12 o’clock marker.

Overall, it’s a lovely looking device.

Movado hasn’t published any specifications for the Connect, and a scan of the Movado website reveals nothing but a press release. So, we’ll have to wait to see what CPU it has and how much RAM it’s packing. Most new smartwatch releases this year have a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor and 512MB of RAM, so you can expect the Connect to have similar specifications. What we do know is that it’ll run Android Wear 2.0 from launch, and it’ll launch in five different men’s styles to start with.

In terms of pricing, Movado has said it’ll start at $495.00 in the US, which isn’t bad - that’s far less than the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 and Montblanc Summit, and we suspect that the pricing will be dependent on the type of strap you choose.
