Nixon Launches the Rugged and Tough Mission SS Smartwatch

by in News .

American watch maker Nixon has announced the Mission SS, an all-new smartwatch with GPS and real-time surf and snow condition tracking. It also boasts an eye-catching, rugged design and comes with a unique bungee cord magnetic charger.

Here’s what you need to know about it:

Design and features

The Nixon Mission SS has a 1.39-inch, 400 x 400 AMOLED display and runs Android Wear. It is available with a stainless steel, black or gold finish.

As with all smartwatches, the Mission SS’s design is dominated by the display when it’s turned on. When it’s off, you’re left with a chunky, rugged and tough smartwatch that feels like it could withstand a great deal of wear and tear. It has a shock resistant polycarbonate case, which gives it a warm, organic feel in the hand, and a ‘surgical-grade’ stainless steel bezel which is there to protect the Gorilla Glass crystal covering the screen.

The Mission SS is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset, and runs 512MB of RAM. That’s on-par with the latest efforts from Samsung and LG, making the Mission SS very fast indeed. In terms of sensor modules, the Mission SS has a thermometer, altimeter, barometer, e-compass, gyrometer, accelerometer, and humidity sensors, allowing you to accurately track the conditions around you. The unique selling point of the Mission SS, and indeed all Nixon Mission smartwatches, is the Nixon Mission App. This gives you real-time surf and snow conditions. It’s a preinstalled app that works extremely well. And, thanks to GPS and Google Maps, the Mission SS can be used for a wider range of outdoor activities, which is neat.

Elsewhere, the Mission SS’s watch faces are extremely customisable. There’s positive (white) or negative (black) background options, and 9 different hand colours. There’s also 9 different digit colours and 14 different sub dials to choose from.

Pricing and availability

The Nixon Mission SS is on sale now for $425.00, with that price sticking for all three finishes (steel, black and gold). You can pick up yours from authorised Nixon Mission retailers, or you can buy directly through the official Nixon website here.
