Walk into a prestige jeweller’s and there’s a good chance that you’ll find Montblanc watches being displayed alongside the likes of Omega and Rolex. Indeed, Montblanc craft beautiful Swiss-Made timepieces (and pens, it must be said) that are an inspired choice for any enthusiast. And now, there’s a Montblanc smartwatch you’ll want to get your hands on too.
The Montblanc Summit
The Montblanc Summit is a Swiss-Made smartwatch at a great price. It will start from $890 when it goes on sale, which might sound like a lot, but isn’t when you consider that the new Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 costs $1,000 more. For the price, you are getting a top-quality smartwatch from a respected and admired Swiss brand, and the real kicker is that the Summit has decent specifications too. So, this isn’t just a brand connoisseur’s choice; it’s for anybody that wants a smartwatch on their wrist that’s both prestigious and capable.
Montblanc Summit Features
In terms of features, let’s start with the unique: The Montblanc Summit has an E-compass (this uses an accelerometer and a magnetometer for accurate navigation and orientation readouts) and a barometer (for measuring atmospheric pressure). We can’t name another smartwatch that has these, so they are interesting features to have.
The Summit also has a heart-rate sensor, a vibration motor for smartphone notifications, a microphone for voice calls and fitness-tracking sensors.
Montblanc Summit Screen, Innards and OS
The Montblanc Summit runs Android Wear 2.0. Powering it is a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor with 512MB RAM, and there’s 4GB of storage on-board. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are used for push notifications, and Montblanc promises seamless integration for Android and iPhone users with a 4.0m plus Bluetooth signal range.
The display is a 1.39″ Round AMOLED 400 x 400 display covered by a domed sapphire crystal. This is the crystal of choice for high-end watches so it’s nice to see it used here. The watch itself is on the large size - the case is 46mm in diameter and it’s also 12.5mm thick. However, that’s only 1mm thicker than the mechanical Montblanc 4810 Day-Date. As far as battery life is concerned, the Summit will last 24-hours on a single charge. It charges on a magnetic docking station, which is obviously included with the watch itself. Montblanc says that a full charge should take around 4-hours, which isn’t bad at all.
The Summit is also available in a range of designs, which include a Bi-Colour Steel Case with a Navy-Blue Rubber Strap, a PVD Black Steel Case with a Black Calfskin Strap, and a Titanium Case with a Brown Sfumato Strap. In total, there are 23 design variations to choose from, which range in price from $890 to $930. That’s great value for a Swiss-Made smartwatch from such a distinguished brand. It’s also nice to see the grade 5 titanium models priced at a rate that isn’t absurdly more than the steel options, which is sometimes the case.
