Garmin launches adventure-based MARQ smartwatch line

by in News .

Hot on the heels of luxury timepiece brands launching high-end smartwatches (like the Montblanc Summit and Tag Heuer Connected) Garmin have launched their own high-end smartwatch line with an adventurous vibe.

The five smartwatches (Aviator, Driver, Captain, Expedition, Athlete) are targeted towards pilots, ship captains, explorers and athletes. In other words, the cream of the crop. They stand out from ordinary smartwatches through a set of unique features which are model specific. We’ll take a closer look at these below.

MARQ Aviator

The MARQ Aviator is for pilots. It lets you view three different time zones and comes pre-loaded with maps and airport schematics. It also comes pre-loaded with Garmin Cockpit and Nexrad Weather Radar.

MARQ Driver

The MARQ Driver is for competitive racing. It comes with 250 pre-loaded global race tracks and specially designed software that can track lap splits, track time and driver performance down to a tee. Of course, it also has a tachymeter.

MARQ Captain

The MARQ Captain is for captains and sailors. It has sailing specific software built in for tack assist, time to burn, virtual starting line, tide information and wind and water temperature. There’s also GPS for tracking progress.

MARQ Expedition

The MARQ Expedition comes with a 360-degree compass, barometric scales and compatibility with the inReach Mini satellite communicator. It also has a Pulse Ox sensor to monitor your blood oxygen saturation levels.

MARQ Athlete

The MARQ Athlete is for serious athletes. It shows recovery time and VO2 max scales on the bezel and tracks heart-rate levels with high accuracy. The titanium case is lightweight, and the watch is specially balanced to not get in the way.

Of course, all of these smartwatches receive push notifications from your smartphone, including email and call notifications. There’s also Bluetooth for music streaming, NFC for contactless payments and GPS on every device.

Pricing and availability

The MARQ collection ranges in price from $1,500 to $1,950 and is very niche indeed. The prices are $1,500 for the Driver, $1,950 for the Aviator, $1,850 for the Captain, $1,750 for the Expedition, and $1,500 for the Athlete. They are available to buy now from Garmin with shipments commencing in the next 5 weeks.
