Louis Vuitton Releases Updated Tambour Horizon for 2019
You might remember back in 2017 luxury brand Louis Vuitton launched the Tambour Horizon -- their first ever smartwatch. With a solid up-to-date specification, first-rate build quality and a price tag of $2,450.00, it hit headlines for a few reasons. We were particularly impressed by the design and watch faces.
Now, Luis Vuitton is back with an updated version of the Tambour Horizon. The 2019 edition is predicted to cost around the same as the old model (pricing hasn’t been confirmed just yet) and it comes with quite few notable hardware upgrades.
The most notable upgrade is in battery life thanks to the introduction of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor. This has a secondary low-power processor that takes care of automated functions like gestures and tracking. A 20% improvement in battery life is common and the 2019 Tambour Horizon will last up to 5 days on a charge.
The display has also received an update. It’s got a higher resolution, although no specifications have been released. The old Tambour Horizon had a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a not inconsiderable 390 x 390 resolution.
These improvements bring the Tambour Horizon bang up to date, and it is also the first ‘luxury’ smartwatch to have the new Qualcomm processor. The likes of Tag are still using the now outdated 2100 processor in their smartwatches.
Because it’s a direct upgrade to the older model, the exterior build is the same. The highly polished stainless-steel case is made at Louis Vuitton's manufacturing facility in Switzerland but the watch itself is assembled in the US.
There are more than 60 watch straps to choose from so there’s a Tambour Horizon for everyone. There’re also a few different bezel colours available, including black, white and graphite. The bezel has a unique time display with 24-hour clock numbers and a concaved design, making it stand out against the display. Overall, this is a lovely smartwatch but then it should be for the price. Best get saving then.
