Pebble is one of the most renowned smartwatch companies today. Paving the way for the smartwatch revolution. A more traditional styled variant of the first Pebble watch was later released in the first quarter of 2014, which was named Pebble Steel.
The smartwatch has a 1.26 inch monochrome LCD with a resolution of 144 x 168 pixels and an e-paper display. Other features include a vibration monitor, angle and light sensors, Bluetooth, and LED backlight. There are four buttons, one on the left side and three buttons on the right side of the watch. The left-side button is used to activate the LED backlight and to go back to the main screen. While, the top button on the right side is used for moving up, the middle one is used to select, and the bottom most is used to move down. The first generation Pebble smartwatch has a lithium-ion polymer battery that lasts up to 7 days. The smartwatch is charged through a magnetic connection that takes power through USB.
The first generation pebble smartwatch works with Android 2.3.3 and iOS 5 or more advanced smartphones. It is also compatible with iPhone, 4S, 5 and 3rd and 4th generation iPod touch. The Pebble appstore offers thousands of watchfaces and apps such as Dotz, QR generator, Fly time, RunKeeper, and Weather Channel. The e-paper display and LED backlight make the screen readable in daylight. Call, SMS, and email notifications can be easily read because of the LCD display. The battery is fantastic and lasts for 7 days before needing to be charged, as claimed by the company. The Pebble watch comes in five colours, which include jet black, red, orange, arctic white, and grey.
