The New Guess Connect Smartwatch Runs Android Wear 2.0

The New Guess Connect Smartwatch Runs Android Wear 2.0

In the United Kingdom and the United States, Guess is a relatively well-known fashion brand whose traditional watches range in price from $90 to around $300. The company launched a range of hybrid smartwatches last year (smartwatches with an analog face and fitness-tracking sensors), but this year they have gone one step further by revealing a new range of Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches for men and women.

The new Guess Connect smartwatch has a fully-round display (unfortunately, there are no details available on-screen specs just yet), and it will be available in 41mm and 44mm case sizes to appeal to both sexes. It will run the latest version of Android Wear 2.0 from launch, with that software powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor and 512MB of RAM, which is on-par with all the latest smartwatch releases.

With the Guess Connect, you also can send messages directly from the watch to another smartwatch or a smartphone through an onboard keyboard or a handwriting feature that lets you doodle on the display. It’s also important to remember that Guess’s hybrid smartwatch has Amazon Alexa functionality built-in. We expect this feature to carry over to the new Guess Connect to provide a wider range of voice recognition skills.

Standing Out

With most new smartwatches having a round display and the same innards (around 512MB of RAM and a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor), not to mention Android Wear 2.0, it’s becoming harder for OEMs to distinguish their devices. Guess has had a good go though. The Guess Connect will be available with a variety of bezels and with a variety of case finishes. There will also be over a hundred combinations of display color, display function and sub-dials, so that the user can really make their Connect their own. The straps will also be interchangeable with leather, rubber and metal ones available.

Pricing and Availability

Although nothing has been confirmed by Guess yet, we expect the new Android Wear-powered Guess Connect to go on sale in the UK, US and various countries in Europe first, including Portugal and Spain, which are key markets for the brand.

The release date of May or June sounds about right, and we expect prices to start at around $250. That’s cheap for a smartwatch with the latest technology, but Guess doesn’t have the brand kudos to charge more in a market filled with hugely-capable devices. Overall, then, we’re excited to see this smartwatch in action and we’re happy that a low-cost and fashionable alternative to Fossil Group’s new smartwatches has finally been revealed.
